Location

Known as the city of dreaming spires, Oxford is world famous for being home to the oldest University in the English-speaking world, and for its fine architecture and cosmopolitan culture. The city boasts an impressive number of tourist attractions, including the world-renowned Oxford colleges, Bodleian Library, Ashmolean Musuem, Sheldonian Theatre and the Botanic Garden.

Located nearby and popular day-trip destinations include Blenheim Palace - home to the Duke and Duchess of Marlborough and birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill; Stratford-upon-Avon - home-town of William Shakespeare and one of the most important tourist destinations in the UK; and Warwick Castle - one of the best preserved medieval castles in Britain.

London, with its myriad attractions, is a 90-minute coach ride or a one-hour train journey from Oxford.

Venue

St Anne's College is located in the centre of Oxford, within walking distance from all major Oxford museums and colleges, and in the proximity of numerous restaurants, theatres, cinemas and shopping areas. A number of modern and affordable en-suite and washbasin rooms with free Internet connection are available within the beautiful college grounds for the conference participants - please book early to secure one of these rooms.

How to get to the conference

Oxford is easy to reach from all major London airports. The closest London airport is Heathrow, with coaches between the airport and Oxford every 30 minutes during the day (and less frequently throughout the night). London Gatwick is slightly further, but also served by regular coaches to/from Oxford. The coach timetables and departure bays at the two airports are listed here. If you use any of these coaches, a period return ticket is best value for money; and the recommended coach stop in Oxford is Gloucester Green (Coach Station), the terminal stop for both services. The coach station is within 12 minutes walking distance or a short taxi ride from St. Anne's College (ask the taxi driver to take you to St Anne's College Lodge on Woodstock Road).

From London City Airport, use local public transport to Paddington - a journey planner is available here. Regular train services are running between London Paddington and Oxford approximately every half hour. Please see below for details on how to reach St. Anne's College from the railway station in Oxford.

From Stansted Airport, take the Stansted Express to Liverpool Street Rail Station, followed by the London Underground to Paddington Rail Station. There are regular train services between London Paddington and Oxford.

From Luton Airport, take the train to central London followed by the London Underground and the train to Oxford like for Stansted Airport.

From regional UK airports and all other places in the UK, Oxford can easily be reached by train. If you arrive to Oxford by train, St. Anne's College is a 10-minute taxi ride from the railway station. Ask the taxi driver to take you to St Anne's College Lodge on Woodstock Road. Alternatively, you can walk to the college.

Hiring a car is not recommended because parking in Oxford is very limited and restrictive.
