Overview

Generic programming is a thriving research area aimed at making programming more effective by making it more general. This school aims to give participants insights into the applications of generic programming and the current research challenges in the area.

The school combines theoretical underpinnings with practical applications. The theory presented is of wide application and will be of benefit to many research students about to embark on research in the general area of programming languages and the mathematics of program construction. The lectures will be tutorial-style (as opposed to conference-style) and will be accessible to beginning computing science postgraduates. (Experience of programming is essential. Experience of functional programming is desirable. Participants without such experience are recommended to attend the companion school on Advanced Functional Programming.)

The (world-famous) University of Oxford is organised around a number of colleges. The school will take place in St Anne's College, which is situated within walking distance of the Computing Laboratory and the centre of Oxford.
